This is one appliance that does not just take up space on the countertop. It has battery backup and will start up where it left off when unplugged. I make a fresh loaf of whole wheat bread in it daily, and have made cranberry nut and lemon poppyseed bread, with perfect results. These quick breads bake more evenly in the bread machine than in the conventional oven. I’ve also made pizza dough with better results than by hand, I think due to the fact that the baking environment inside the machine is always just right. This is a great machine, easy to use and makes breadmaking simple. I think the crust comes out too dark even when set for a light crust, so I stop the bake cycle early. I highly recommend this breadmaker.

If you are a fan of fine, home baked breads and are in the market for a bread machine, look no further. This machine is fabulous! It has many menu features for perfectly baking a wide variety of breads and a delay timer for bread when you want it. My favorite features are that the bread pan and dough blade can go straight into my dishwasher, the fan keeps the heat evenly distributed for beautifully baked breads, and it features a beep signal at the end of the mixing cycles so you can remove the mixing blade before it bakes. This means you won’t have that annoying large gap in the underside of your bread. I absolutely love this machine and recommend it to every bread conniseur. If, however, you are only looking for a bread machine to mix up pizza dough and an occasional loaf of simple bread, I suggest saving some money by purchasing a less expensive model with less bells and whistles. We had been hesitant to purchase a bread machine as reviews for all products range from wonderful to horrid. We finally decided on the West Bend 41200 because of the low price, the flexibility of multiple size loaves and the additional dough and jam features.In the month since purchase, we have used the bread machine 10 times, making 4 different types of breads ranging from traditional white to beer/jalapeno/cheese, sweet breads, pizza dough and jam. We have no complaints. Using the bread machine is actually easier than you are led to believe. All recipes say you must measure exactly, only use the ingredients listed and follow step by step. This is not true. We have modified recipes slightly by adding/reducing liquid if the dough or the proportions do not seem proper, we have substituted ingredients; using all-purpose flour, not bread flour; substituting an equal amount of skim milk in place of the water and dry milk; etc. We find no appreciable difference in the quality of the product. Focus Electrics, owner of the West Bend name, has a wonderful recipe book on their website: [...]We are so pleased with the West Bend 41200 we will be purchasing many more for wedding and holiday gifts.

Although this is my third Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Maker, I am very happy with it’s features. I like the separate yeast dispenser, I like the choices in loaf size and crust color. I also feel it is quite forgiving if you are not perfectly accurate with your measurements. The main problem is the motor burns out after awhile; but, I do use it often, almost daily. My son once used it to make pizza dough (as he OFTEN did) and set it too close to the countertop edge. The machine fell to the floor but kept on working. It was the motor that eventually died.

I received this breadmaker as a gift for Christmas 2008 and I LOVE it. I have never owned a breadmaker before so I cannot give you a side-by-side via experience. However, I can tell you that one of the things my Mother used to have trouble with timing the addition of fruits and nuts (gets distracted, misses the beeps, you may know this story…). This bread machine takes care of that because it has a little “drop in” tray that can be used when “fruit & nuts” are selected for any cycle (but you still have to remember to select…not 100% idiot proof I found through experience ).

Thus far, we have used it to make cinnamon rolls, pizza dough, sourdough bread, cinnamon-raisin bread and oatmeal-wheat bread with nuts. I am planning to get the caraway seeds and rye flower necessary for rye bread soon. I no longer buy bread at the store. All of the recipes have been out of the little book that comes with it thus far. It’s pretty simple…add ingredients in order, make a little hole for the yeast, select cycle (don’t forget fruit & nuts!) and go.

After reading other reviews that mention the pan jumping around I am a little concerned that this may become an issue. I have had this happen once before but I probably have 15-20 uses in at this point and everything seems to be okay.

Again I say…LOVE IT!
